After hyping up some teaser art and a leaked product listing on Amazon last night, Sony has confirmed that their Santa Monica studios new title is, in fact, the new God of War.

God of War: Ascension will, judging by the video, detail Kratos' exploits before Aries' made him the "Ghost of Sparta." The trailer here shows Kratos strung up by his iconic "Chains of Olympus," his base starting weapon in all three installments, before breaking free and whipping the chains towards the camera.
It shouldn't be a surprise that the new GoW should be a prequel - there's not many places left to go after the third's ending. It will be interesting to see just how much more Sony Santa Monica can "flesh out" Kratos' backstory.
Sony says more details incoming on April 30 at 8 a.m. PDT.
I'm just glad they kept the GoW narrator, Linda Hunt. She was Grandmother Willow in Disney's "Pocahontas," y'know.
