[WHOA] XBLA Minecraft Breaks Day One Digital Sales Records

One hour - that's all it took before Minecraft started officially filling Notch's wallet. No more than 60 minutes after the block-stacking smash hit made its XBLA debut, profit had surpassed the budget of even the PC version, which was millions.

[WATCH] Game of Thrones' Westeros Being Built in Minecraft

A speedy tour of Westeros in all its pixellated finery

I know, I know - another Game of Thrones post.

Oh, the horror.

But here, I get to combine my A Song of Ice and Fire passion with my vidya passion and give you this: Fanatic fools that are re-creating George R. R. Martin's world of Westeros - all on a lone Minecraft server (dubbed "A Server of Ice and Fire" - tee hee.)

Notch's New Game Provoking Another "Scrolls" Fiasco

So, Notch has a new game in the works - this time it's set in space. No word yet on if it's space made up of like, 2x2 blocks. The interesting part is the name: Mars Effect. Apparently, Notch has learned nothing from his legal tussle with Bethesda over his previous title, Scrolls.

Alternatively, he's learned that messing with corporate publishers is fun, albeit a little risky. But if I had to choose to meet Bethesda or EA in court, I think I'd pick Bethesda.

Humble Bundle Mojam puts up almost $500k for charity

On Sunday, the "Humble Bundle Mojam" wrapped up. The Mojam was a fast-paced, 60-hour indie game development marathon headed up by Minecraft's Mojang.

Wolfire Games and Oxeye Game Studio also participated in the Mojam (which, judging by the video, was more of a big kid sleepover than anything.)

Three new indie titles were made in that two-and-a-half day timeframe and over 81,000 purchases were made under the Humble Bundle's "pay what you want" model.

When all the numbers were tallied, the event raised $458,243.95 for four charities: Penny Arcade's Child's Play, Electronic Frontier Foundation, charity: water and the American Red Cross.
