Square-Enix CEO Feels FFVII Is Franchise's Best

I feel like an age-old struggle is grinding away into dust - finally.

Some will tell you that when fanboys wage war, there are no winners. Final Fantasy VII fanboys, however, just won, big time.

At a recent shareholders meeting, Square-Enix CEO Yoichi Wada was asked about the public's ever-present clamor for a remake of 1997's JRPG classic. See? Even nameless, faceless moneybags who know nothing of the franchise want an FFVII remake. What's the holdup?

Andriasang reports that Wada told the investors, “We’ll make a Final Fantasy VII remake once we’ve made a Final Fantasy game that exceeds the quality of FFVII.”

BOOM. FFVII = Best FF Ever. Straight dope from the man himself.

He added that to remake FFVII would spell the end of the franchise. Sounds legit. Any "nĂ¼-FF" game that followed it - with its vapid, two-dimensional protagonists, "one-and-done" battle menu interface and "hands-off" gameplay - would be like Led Zeppelin opening up for Ke$ha.

Ok, he didn't say that last part. But we all know where he's coming from...

Do you want to see a remake of FFVII? I think it would be a great way to end the series.
