Bioware to expand ME3 ending

Here's a new one - I've been playing the vidya game tapes for 20+ years but I've never seen a video game ending get a rewrite.

Ok, not an actual rewrite per sé, but let's call it an "expanded epilogue."

Recently, Bioware acknowledged the hobbled and unsatisfying ending that capped the Mass Effect 3 experience and today, GM Ray Muzyka announced a set of "content initiatives" that will revamp the current ME3 endings.

The Internet commenter backlash has peaked in the last couple weeks - many lamenting that many long-running questions in the series were never answered and several plot holes were left gaping. On the official Bioware site, Dr. Muzyka said the pushback from loyal fans has been too rampant to ignore.
"Exec Producer Casey Hudson and the team are hard at work on a number of game content initiatives that will help answer the questions, providing more clarity for those seeking further closure to their journey. You’ll hear more on this in April. We’re working hard to maintain the right balance between the artistic integrity of the original story while addressing the fan feedback we’ve received. This is in addition to our existing plan to continue providing new Mass Effect content and new full games, so rest assured that your journey in the Mass Effect universe can, and will, continue."
"Some of the criticism that has been delivered in the heat of passion by our most ardent fans, even if founded on valid principles, such as seeking more clarity to questions or looking for more closure, for example – has unfortunately become destructive rather than constructive. We listen and will respond to constructive criticism, but much as we will not tolerate individual attacks on our team members, we will not support or respond to destructive commentary."
Muzyka wrapped up by reaffirming Bioware's open stance on community feedback (as long as the community plays nice and lays off the F-bombs) and by urging everyone to go out and purchase the game so that Bioware can hear what everyone thinks of the ending - they're very thorough.

No word on whether or not they plan to charge for this "director's cut" ending material. Would you pay? Were you that incensed by the Mass Effect 3 endings? (No spoilers, please, I haven't gotten around to ME3 yet and it's my job to read all your comments - so please...)

  1. From what I understand, it's not so much a reworking of the ending as it is a rush to put out DLC that will help clarify some open issues. So there won't be any recanting, just adding.

But they were always going to do that anyway.
